Surgeon at Berghain, Berlin 4th March 2012

Here is a recording of my DJ set at Berghain recorded between 7am and 10am on Sunday 4th March 2012. Things are getting pretty deep at that time of day, I was enjoying the waves of energy throughout the set. Internal > External and back again.

Surgeon Live @ Berghain, Berlin - 04-03-2012
While I'm happy for people to share this mix, please don't re-tag the file with the name of your website and re-upload it.

ps. The fact that cameras and filming are not allowed at Berghain make it a much deeper and more intense musical experience for everyone. I sincerely wish this was the case at all of the clubs I play at.
If you are taking pictures, filming, tweeting or whatever else then you aren't fully involved with the music.

pps. I agree with you but,... when you spend money and time to travel from the uk to Berghain to enjoy with you the experience only to find you're refused at the door for being english sucks... Gutted

@ Torch.
Indeed, I've experienced the same thing. Two years ago I travelled from Belgium to Berlin for Surgeon @ Berghain. Also refused at the door, really confusing

@Torch. I'm English, and I've never been refused entry to Berghain. My take on it is that it's more about understanding the vibe of Berlin than anything else.

Ha, I'm English and I've been refused twice; one time I queued up again having reversed my jacket and removed my glasses, and presto, admitted by the gent who originally refused entry. Go figure.

Outside of refusing people who are drunk or drugged (or look like shit, for example) it's an arbitrarily discriminatory process.

Thakfully Tresor are not as uptight.

Yeah, but Tresor is rubbish. They'll let anyone in!

You winner.

Tresor is awesome, they let me in!

Great set Tony, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Can I ask what tune it is you're playing around the 11 minute mark?

Cheers

I know this is probably a bit tiresome but I don't think you get rejected for being english (or non-german for that matter). Nobody has a 100% guarantee of getting into Berghain (except guestlist), even regular attendants do get refused from time to time simply because the bouncers want to keep it fresh (and keep the mysterious door policy alive). Sorry for everyone who didn't get in. Thank you Surgeon for a great set, I thought it was the best of the evening. Also a really nice gesture with the guestlist for your next gig :)

PS: I know this is probably the last thing you want to be asked but could you please tell me the name of the track you're playing between Rebekah - Who Poisoned Ivy and Skudge - Overture (Substance Remix)? It starts at 12:49 and I've had it in my head since I first heard it during your set.

Great set. Tracklist please.

Thanks for including a track from our little label Coincidence. Think Rebekah will be very happy with that :)

Really great mix, thanks for uploading it. Wish I could have been there.

For those with ID requests, check here for an attempt at a tracklisting I came across:

@ Anthony.

I would really appreciate that! thanks!

Berghain is an exemplary example of contemporary fascism. Germans still like nothing more than to make people line up and be subjected to arbitrary selection procedures. The door policy encourages a disgustingly selfish clubbing ethos - "I don't care as long as I get in", "My mates didn't get in - they had to go to Tresor, but I had a great night". Where is the love and positivity? Just fucking horrid.

This is a superb set. As I live in Melbourne its difficult to get to Berlin (though I was at Berghain in 2010) so really appreciate this.

Nice Set, but something seems to be wrong with the mp3 file.

I want to play it in my car but it dont work. I thought the file is to big, but my mp3 splitter says the file is corrupt. Downloading again dont work. I became the same message. I am only able to play it with i tunes.

Cheers Tony - looking forward to listening to it. Still got your Planet Rose mix from 2004 to listen to on the way to work. The Autechre intro is brilliant.

Like your set from The Forum in Australia, when you've got a chance to go long and dig deep, you do NOT disappoint.

Top notch, sir, top notch.

Thanks for recording and sharing!
